A Major Expansion for FINEO Production

AGC Glass Europe has officially quadrupled its production capacity for FINEO vacuum insulation glass (VIG) with the launch of a new production line at its facility in Lodelinsart. The expansion marks a major milestone for the company and reflects the growing demand for ultra-thin, high-performance insulating glass across Europe.

The new production line, now fully operational, delivers four times the capacity of the original pilot line introduced in 2019. As demand for FINEO accelerated, the expansion became essential, reducing delivery lead times from four weeks to just two.

What Makes FINEO Different?

FINEO is currently the only validated ultra-thin vacuum insulation glass manufactured in Europe with CE certification. Its technology combines exceptional thermal performance with an extremely slim profile.

Unlike traditional triple glazing, FINEO uses a vacuum cavity of only 0.1 millimeters.

Ultra-Thin Yet Highly Insulating

FINEO delivers thermal insulation comparable to triple glazing while remaining dramatically thinner and lighter:

  • Only one-quarter the thickness of conventional triple glazing
  • Approximately half the weight
  • Excellent light transmission
  • Enhanced acoustic insulation
  • Reduced raw material consumption

These characteristics make the product especially valuable for both renovation projects and modern sustainable construction.

According to the FINEO team, the product’s lower weight and reduced material use contribute directly to lower CO₂ emissions during both manufacturing and installation.

A Strong Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability sits at the core of the FINEO strategy. AGC intentionally developed the product under the principle of “Less is more,” aiming to deliver superior performance using fewer materials.

The production facility’s location in Belgium’s historic glass manufacturing region also supports a lower environmental footprint. AGC benefits from nearby float glass production and in-house coating operations, minimizing transportation requirements.

Additional sustainability initiatives include:

  • Increased use of glass cullet (recycled glass)
  • Electrification of production processes
  • Greater reliance on green energy
  • Reduced frame thickness requirements
  • Fully recyclable glass components

FINEO is also the only product in its category with a certified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

Meeting Europe’s Renovation Challenge

Initially, FINEO focused on the renovation of historic buildings and protected facades — a market where traditional triple glazing is often too thick or heavy.

Today, the company is expanding into broader residential, office, and commercial renovation markets. Europe’s aging building stock presents a major opportunity for advanced insulating technologies like vacuum glazing.

Because FINEO combines high insulation performance with slim aesthetics, it allows architects and renovators to preserve original window frames while dramatically improving energy efficiency.

Innovation Inside the Factory

The new production facility represents a major technological leap forward.

What started as a pilot production line has now evolved into what the company internally describes as “FINEO 3.0,” with plans already underway for future generations of the technology.

The manufacturing process differs significantly from traditional insulating glass production.

Instead of assembling multiple materials like aluminum spacers and sealants, FINEO production begins with large “motherboard” glass sheets in a cleanroom environment. These sheets are vacuum-sealed before being cut into individual panes.

A Fully Circular Glass Product

One of FINEO’s most unique characteristics is its circularity.

Unlike conventional insulated glass units that combine multiple materials, FINEO is almost entirely ceramic and glass-based. This allows the entire product — including edge seals and internal components — to be recycled directly back into a glass furnace.

The company believes this could fundamentally change how the construction industry thinks about glazing lifecycles.

In fact, AGC executives suggest that future buildings may eventually require frame replacement before the glass itself reaches the end of its lifespan.

Expanding Product Possibilities

The expanded production line also allows AGC to broaden the FINEO product portfolio.

New variants under development include:

  • Vacuum glazing with even lower U-values
  • Larger format glass panels
  • Tempered VIG solutions
  • Products optimized for new construction
  • Specialized solutions for restoration projects

This flexibility enables AGC to serve every segment of the market — from heritage restoration to high-performance new builds.

A Revolution Still in Its Early Stages

The team behind FINEO sees vacuum insulation glass as more than just a product innovation — they see it as the beginning of a major shift in the glass industry.

By combining thin profiles, exceptional insulation, lower environmental impact, and long-term circularity, FINEO positions itself at the center of Europe’s drive toward sustainable construction.

And according to the people leading the project, this is only the beginning.
