Fineo vacuum glazing: the official facts

Fineo is a vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit made by AGC Glass Europe in Belgium and supplied in the UK and Ireland by Energlaze UK. The standard retrofit unit, Fineo 8, is 7.7mm thick with a centre pane U-value (Ug) of 0.7 W/m²K and sound insulation of Rw 35 dB.

This page is the reference for every Fineo figure on this website. If another source quotes a different number, the figures here and in AGC’s datasheets are the ones to use. Last updated: 14 October 2026.

How Fineo is made

A Fineo 8 unit is two panes of 3.8mm (4mm nominal) glass, separated by a vacuum gap of about 0.1mm. One pane carries a low emissivity coating. The panes are held apart by tiny pillars set on a 20mm grid, and the edge is hermetically sealed.

With no air or gas in the gap, heat has almost no path across it. That is how a unit little thicker than single glazing outperforms 36mm triple glazing. Fineo has no evacuation port and no gas fill, so there is nothing to leak away over time. Its U-value holds at any angle, so it suits sloping and roof glazing too.

Performance by unit

Every unit in the standard range has the same centre pane U-value. Thicker units add mass, which improves sound insulation.

Unit Thickness Ug (W/m²K) Light transmission g value Rw (C; Ctr) Rw + Ctr
Fineo 8 7.7mm 0.7 79% 0.61 35 dB (−2; −5) 30 dB
Fineo 10 9.7mm 0.7 79% 0.60 36 dB (−2; −3) 33 dB
Fineo 12 11.7mm 0.7 78% 0.60 36 dB (−1; −2) 34 dB

Light and solar values are measured to EN 410. Ug is calculated to EN 673. Acoustic values come from laboratory tests to EN ISO 10140 on a 1.23 x 1.48m sample, so results on site depend on the window size and frame. Light reflection is 14% inside and out for all three units.

Sustainability

Fineo is 100% recyclable without loss of quality, lead free and contains no inert gas. It is made at AGC’s Lodelinsart plant in Belgium. A low carbon version, made with low carbon glass, is also available.

Certification and testing

Fineo is CE marked under European Technical Assessment ETA 20/0048, issued by UBAtc against European Assessment Document EAD 300021-00-0404. AGC publishes a Declaration of Performance for each unit. The Fineo 8 declaration lists Ug 0.7 W/m²K, Rw 35 dB, a solar factor of 61%, reaction to fire class A1, and a pass for the durability of the vacuum unit and its coated glass.

Warranty and service life

Fineo carries a 20 year warranty under AGC’s warranty terms. AGC designs the unit to perform for several decades, and the hermetic seal means there is no gas fill to degrade.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How thick is Fineo vacuum glazing?

Fineo 8, the standard retrofit unit, is 7.7mm thick. Fineo 10 is 9.7mm and Fineo 12 is 11.7mm.

What is the U-value of Fineo?

Fineo has a centre pane U-value (Ug) of 0.7 W/m²K, calculated to EN 673. That is better than 36mm triple glazing at 0.8 W/m²K and around eight times better than single glazing at 5.8 W/m²K.

Who makes Fineo and who sells it in the UK?

AGC Glass Europe makes Fineo at Lodelinsart in Belgium. Energlaze UK is the approved distributor for the UK and Ireland and works with a network of approved installers.

What warranty does Fineo have?

Fineo carries a 20 year warranty under AGC’s warranty terms.

Is Fineo CE marked?

Yes. Fineo is CE marked under European Technical Assessment ETA 20/0048, and AGC publishes a Declaration of Performance for each unit.

Does Fineo contain gas?

No. The gap between the panes is a vacuum, so there is no argon or krypton to leak out over time.

Approved by RIBA and IHBC

Fineo is approved by both the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). Our free seminar on vacuum glazing for heritage and conservation projects carries the backing of both bodies, and the time your practice spends with us counts towards CPD.
